The French writer André Gide wrote: "Ravello is nearer to the sky than it is to the shore." With these few words the almost heavenly aspect of this town is evident and very well expressed. For many people Ravello, perched above the Amalfi Coastline, is a bucolic spot where to hide and enjoy the treasures of nature and humankind. The town has always been, like it is today, the perfect place for a romantic getaway, and many famous artists or writers spent some time here. Greta Garbo flew to Ravello with the musician Stokowski, in the gardens of Villa Rufolo Richard Wagner found his Garden of Klingsor and D.H. Lawrence lived there some time and wrote many pages of 'Lady Chatterley's Lover'. Nowadays, this small charming town is an important cultural centre and every year it plays host to the Ravello Music Festival which takes place from March to December.
